The Eucharist: The Heart of Our Faith

For Catholics, the Eucharist is not a symbol, and is more than a ceremony or a ritual.
The Eucharist is Jesus Christ Himself, living, present, and pouring out His love in every Mass.
When we designed our “Remembrance” T-shirt, we were not creating just another piece of clothing. We were creating a reminder of the greatest gift Jesus has ever given: the Eucharist, and our ability to receive Him at every Mass.

The Eucharist began with a single moment that changed the course of salvation history forever: The Last Supper.

Jesus took the bread and said:

“This is my Body which is given for you. Do this in Remembrance of me.” (Luke 22:19)

From that moment forward, the Church has carried this mystery through every generation for the next ~2000 years. The first Christians risked imprisonment and death just to celebrate the Eucharist in secret. They called it “the breaking of the bread”, and they believed exactly what Catholics believe today: the objective Truth that the Eucharist is truly Jesus, alive and present.

By the year 155 A.D., St. Justin Martyr wrote one of the earliest descriptions of the Mass, and it matches what we still do today:

“The food that our flesh and blood assimilates for its nourishment becomes the flesh and blood of the incarnate Jesus by the power of his own words contained in the prayer of thanksgiving.” 

 For 2,000 years, this Sacrament has been the anchor of our Catholic life.

- Eucharistic miracles exist all over the world: Dozens of hosts have transformed into actual cardiac tissue under scientific examination.

- Every Mass is the same sacrifice as the Cross: It’s not a new sacrifice, it’s the one sacrifice Jesus made present again.

- Saints lived for years on only the Eucharist: St. Catherine of Siena, Bl. Alexandrina da Costa and St. Teresa Neumann survived solely on Holy Communion for long periods.
